Welcome to the October Hope Index

Merriam-Webster defines hope as desiring with an expectation of obtainment or fulfillment.

Here at the Lab, we think that one of the keys to creating change within the Washington state foster care system is to increase the overall levels of hopefulness within the system, and this Index is designed to measure the levels of current hopefulness. When we say we are measuring hope, what we want to capture is whether people believe that something can actually change within the foster care system, and whether they see any evidence that it is changing.

We dream of a system full of people who see that something isn’t working well and immediately start thinking of ways to do it better. More importantly, not only will people have ideas, but they will have the courage and organizational support to actually try them.
